The Law Offices of Mark Shmueli is dedicated to growing and developing pro bono legal services within the community. Over the past few years, Mark and Tina have represented members of the military and military families through AILA’s Military Assistance Program.
The Law Offices of Mark J. Shmueli has also provided pro bono immigration services to refugees, asylum seekers, and individuals seeking deferred action who have been referred to us from local community-based organizations and AILA.
From 2004-2012, Mark served as the local pro bono coordinator for the Washington, D.C., Chapter of the American Immigration Lawyers Association (AILA); in that capacity, he worked with the Arlington and Baltimore Immigration Courts to develop and implement procedures to assist the court in matching up immigrants with pro bono attorneys. As chair of the AILA National Pro Bono Service Committee, Mark spearheaded initiatives to increase the amount of pro bono services provided by AILA members and worked with the Department of Justice to develop policies to streamline the placement of immigration court cases with willing and able attorneys. Under his leadership, the committee also developed a program to train new attorney to prepare them to be pro bono advocates. Finally, the committee also organized the first pro bono clinic at an annual AILA conference; an initiative which continues today.
In recognition of his commitment to pro bono legal services, Mark was the recipient of the Annual Pro Bono Service Award from the Maryland Pro Bono Resource Center in 2008.
