In a hard fought case in which we initially found our client in jail under mandatory detention, we ultimaltely convinced the immigration judge to grant our client cancellation of removal despite three serious criminal convictions. We worked diligently to enlist many neighbors, including the head of the Baltimore City mounted police and a Maryland State Delegate to support our client with letters and live testimony as to our client’s role in the community and the hardship that his young son would face if his father were removed. On the eve of the hearing, the government offered to not oppose the application if our client could demonstrate that he had learned from his mistakes and had rehabiliated himself.
When faced with the deportation of a friend, colleague, neighbor, or family member people will often go to great lengths to provide the evidence and support needed to demonstrate the harsh consequences of deportation.
